The Divine Form of Water, Fraud, and Punishment
Nefeli is one of the most enigmatic and less known forms of ancient Greek mythology. Associated with clouds, rain, and divine deception, Nefeli is not merely a personification of natural phenomenon, but a powerful symbol of divine intervention, hubris, and punishment.
Who was Nefeli?
Nefeli (from the wordnebula= cloud) was a divine entity created by Zeus from a cloud, in the image and likeness of Hera. She wasn't a mortal woman, butapparent format, an idol, in order to reveal and punish the hubris of a mortal.
Her existence is directly related to the kingIxionOne of the most sinful people in mythology.
Ixion and Hybrid to the Gods
Ixion, king of Lapiths, had committed serious crimes and yet Zeus felt sorry for him and hosted him in Olympus. There, though, Ixion committed the greatest insult:He desired her herselfHera, his wifeZeus.
-Zeus,To try and expose Ixiona, he created Nefeli — a cloud in its formHera— and placed her next to him.
The Ixion Association with Nefeli
Ixion, blinded by his desire and arrogance, fell in love with Nefeli, believing she was the goddess Hera. By this act he proved his disrespect and ingratitude toward the gods.
This union was not just an act of fraud, but also of fraud.divine trap, designed to reveal Ixion's true ethos.
The Birth of Centauri
From the union of Ixiona and Nefeli was bornCentauri, a strange being, later joined the Magnesia mares. From this union came the genus ofCentauri, creatures hate people and hate horses.

Ixion’s Punishment
Zeus punished Ixion as an example. He tied him to one.Fire wheelwhich revolves eternally on Tartarus. His punishment became a symbol of divine justice and the consistency of the hybrid.
Nefeli, after performing her role, disappears from the mythological accounts, but remaining as meaning and symbol.
